Bouvier des Flandres / Vlaamse Koehond

The Bouvier des Flandres is a herding dog breed originating in Flanders, Belgium. They were originally used for general farm work including cattle droving, sheep herding, and cart pulling, and nowadays as guard dogs and police dogs, as well as being kept as pets.

The French name of the breed means, literally, "Cow Herder of Flanders", referring to the Flemish origin of the breed. Other names for the breed are Vlaamse Koehond (Flemish cow dog).

DogID is the official platform for the registration of dogs.

The platform, an initiative of the three Belgian Regions (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels), makes it possible to collect the data of domestic dogs on Belgian territory centrally and, by linking it to their owners, gives a better overview of the population.

In 1894 the Bouvier des Flandres was first mentioned in Belgium and in 1921 the Belgian Club Belge Bouvier des Flandres was founded.

Today, the Belgian Bouvier Club is active on various fronts. They organize special shows for the Bouvier des Flandres and regular tests for the working dogs.

Founded in 1882, the Société Royale Saint-Hubert asbl ( also known as Belgian kennel club) has since pursued a single goal: the maintenance and improvement of dog breeds in Belgium.

KMSH is the only Belgian company recognized by the FCI. (Federation Cynologique Internationale).

The Royal Society Saint-Hubert works daily to improve the quality of dog breeding in Belgium with, as a primary objective, the well-being of the dog.
